| I trained four years at the Simon Lau Centre. Recently I decided to leave. and many senior student who had been there over 12 years also. The final thing to make me leave was the ?00 to learn the first section of the Dummy(just the left side)?????????? What's that about? I thought that the Dummy form was part of the system? why are we paying more money to learn? I am now under a new school that is through the linage of Yip Chin. this is what I wanted to learn in the begininig, WING CHUN. What ever I was learning at Simon lau's school was not wing chun. The guy is teaching Lau's Fist. The stuff we learnt at The lau school was aload of crap. The guy has got away with it so long because he started out in the 70s when Fung Fu just started to reached UK. So his name was floating around and his rep for teaching Kung fu has stayed for some reason. He told us once if you are chinese you can get away with teaching anything. You could even copy from a book and give it to one of your students. At the time I laughed but he was serious. Now all his instructors have left his school, he is now asking students who have been there for three months to become instructors and charging ?00 to do a course in instructing? The guy stands in the class when he can be bothered to come out of his office, trying to intimidate people asking questions and laughing when you dont answer what he wants to hear.I am now also learning the correct names of the movements in Cantonese and my teacher is not chinese. Can lau not speak cantonese? I am embarrased of actually attending his school. Not to mention pissed off for wasting 4 years learning Lau Fist. Simon Lau is a member of Yip Man Martial Arts Athletic Association. How?? If anyone is a member of this commitee, he should be asked to show his wing chun. Go to Hong Kong and show Yip Chin , Yip Chun and the other seniors. They will look at him and when he complete his forms, they will either laugh or stare at the floor with ebarrasement. because from what I have learnt from Lau, it's not wing chun. He has copied some of Wong Shong leungs movements in the video and changed some of the movements around in the forms. Only recently, I watched the video of Wong Sheung Leung as Lau always told us not to look at videos and books as this will distort your wing chun. Yeah right! more like find out that Lau is chatting. Every time you ask him a question he answers "just get on with your training" My teaching came from the senior instructors who now I know, Knew more than him. It is thanks to my sifu and instructors that I left that place. As anyone reading this who is thinking of going there. He tells people not to get involved with politics, the guy is a politician. If you do decide to go to learn Lau fist. After a few months, try doing some of your techniques to a student of Yip Man lineage. you will see you have no stance and no understanding. In other words you will be an open target. Ask to see his knives or his pole which is actually a Japanese Bo stick that he keeps in his cupboard. Lau is a Charlatan and a very good one. He has been getting away with this for 30 years. |
